Artists approach

This exhibition presents three distinct artistic approaches that have evolved from observations of nature, whether it is under the earth, on the ground or in the air.
Diana Brennan became fascinated with plant root systems that she dug up and collected while weeding the garden and listening to her sister’s expertise on root pruning in Bonsai in Australia.
Mira Spadijer, an inveterate world traveller, collected natural found objects from the grounds of deserts, forests and urban sidewalks. For this exhibition, she transformed her findings into astonishing jewellery, setting some of them onto the roots of Diana’s sculptures or nestling within the folds Edith’s floating veils.
Edith Meusnier, who lives and works in the country next to a forest, works on attracting the light that passes through her airy, transparent structures.

The exhibition

The three artists gathered together for this exhibition share a common interest in the equivocal-enigmatic and the unexpected.
They showcase strange floating forms, elements unfolding onto the floor or winding along the walls. The effects of layering and transparency in their work and a play of light are enhanced by the eerie and occasionnel alluring ornaments. Jewellery, ceremonial attire, camouflage and the offbeat, cohabit in an upside down world where roots defy gravity, growing upwards towards the sky, where jewellery unexpectedly appears and metal changes into lace.
The metamorphoses succeed each other in a paradoxical installation. While hiding under a seemingly light-hearted approach, the artists propose a reflexion on the artifice of appearances.

Le projet

Cette exposition présente trois démarches artistiques qui partent de l'observation de ce qui se passe sous la terre, sur le sol et dans les airs.
Diana Brennan est fascinée par l'observation du système racinaire des plantes qu'elle collecte en désherbant son jardin et par la taille des racines de bonsaï pratiquée par l'une de ses sœurs en Australie.
Mira Spadjer ramasse, lors de ses nombreux voyages autour du monde, toutes sortes d'objets qu'elle trouve sur le sol des déserts, des forêts, des trottoirs urbains. Elle en fait d’étonnants bijoux dont certains ont été installés sur les racines de Diana et dans les voiles d’Edith.
Quant à Edith Meusnier qui vit et travaille à la campagne, en lisière de forêt, elle s'emploie à capter la lumière qui traverse ses créations légères et transparentes.

L’exposition

Les trois artistes réunies pour cette exposition partagent une attirance pour l'équivoque et l'imprévisible.
Elles mettent en scène des formes étranges qui flottent dans l'espace, se déploient au sol ou serpentent sur les murs. Les effets de transparences et de superpositions, amplifiés par les jeux de lumière, s'enrichissent d'ornements parfois séducteurs, parfois inquiétants. Parure ou apparat, camouflage ou décalage, cohabitent dans un monde inversé où les racines s'élancent vers le ciel, les bijoux se dérobent au regard et le métal se transforme en dentelle.
Les métamorphoses se succèdent dans une installation paradoxale qui dissimule, sous une légèreté feinte, une réflexion sur l'apparence et l'artifice.
